Kathmandu / Social activist and journalist Rajan Thapa, who is constantly moving forward with the campaign “Service is Religion”, is a name that is constantly active in the field of social service, health campaigns and humanitarian service in Nepal. Known as a social activist and journalist, Thapa has now succeeded in winning the hearts of thousands of citizens through free health camps, public awareness programs and human service campaigns being conducted in various parts of the country. So far, Rajan Thapa has been honored by more than 200 different national and international organizations, social institutions and respected forums. The honors he has received reflect not only the achievements of an individual but also his tireless contribution to the field of social service and humanity. Recently, he went to a poor village in Dhading and treated thousands of people before returning to Kathmandu. The role he has played, especially in the health sector, has now become a topic of discussion across the country. Rajan Thapa, who is at the forefront of campaigners who have conducted the most health camps (206) in Nepal in a year, has been working to bring access to health services to thousands of citizens by reaching remote settlements in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Bhaktapur, Kavre, Nuwakot, and various districts of the Terai.
Free health check-ups, dental treatment, blood pressure testing, diabetes testing, women and child health services, medicine distribution, health counseling, and other services have been provided in the health camps conducted under his leadership and coordination. Such camps have become a center of hope and trust for many citizens who have not been able to reach the hospital due to financial constraints.
Recently, journalists asked him at an event —
“Do you support only Om Samaj Dental Hospital in the health camps?”
Rajan Thapa looked a little emotional while answering this question. He said in a calm voice —
“I support not by looking at an organization, but by looking at the spirit of service. But the way Om Samaj Dental Hospital has dedicated itself to serving the people by reaching every village, such a spirit is not seen in all organizations. The work they have done for the poor, helpless and deprived citizens is truly exemplary.”
Many people present at the program became emotional after hearing his words. According to Rajan Thapa, the health camp is not just a program or a formality, it is a campaign to bring hope to the suffering people.
He added —
“Service is not just about taking photos and promoting. True service is when a sick person smiles after receiving treatment. When an old mother says, ‘Son, you are a person sent by God,’ that is my biggest reward.”
Rajan Thapa was seen on the front lines even during the difficult times of the COVID-19 pandemic. Locals say that he has been active in providing food, medicine, oxygen cylinders, hospital bed management to dead bodies. Similarly, he has been conducting relief distribution and support campaigns during earthquakes, floods and other disasters.
Rajan Thapa, who has been highlighting social evils, poverty, health problems and the voices of the people through journalism, has now become a source of inspiration for many youth.
In his opinion, social change is possible not through speeches, but through service.These days, many people work for publicity, but Rajan Thapa is continuously moving forward on the journey of humanity, stating that service is his religion. This is why today he is not just a name, but is becoming established as a symbol of social service and humanity.
